Welcome to the new Mani Admin Plug-in Homepage

While the community of Mani Admin Plug-in grows and expands, the old SMF forum + Tiny Portal combination reached its limits in providing a proper overview about Mani Admin Plug-in. That is the reason why the website has been revamped. You should now be able to easily find your way around Mani Admin Plug-in, because everything now is in one place and can easily be found.

We tried to do this conversion with a minimal loss for our community members. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to fully convert every setting from SMF into the new software being used. For that reason, the avatars and the attachments in the forums got lost. The forums also got pruned. Every locked topic, except the pinned ones, got deleted. We also deleted a lot of old users, who have less than 10 posts and haven't logged into their account once  for quiet some time (< 1 year). This has been done in order to keep the MySQL database fast and efficient and should not affect the community in any way.

If you got a problem with the forum conversion or got any problems with the login on the new site, please use the contact form on this site and inform us about your problem with a proper description. We will try to solve any problems you might get together with you.

Another step was that we will release public beta versions from now on, to test them on a higher system count. But be aware that it is not suggested to use them on a live and productive server. It is a version to test and to test only. It contains bugs. It is not stable. Don't use it for anything else than to test it. The final release for Mani Admin Plug-in 1.2U is set to Tuesday, 27.04.2010.

Have fun with the new homepage of Mani Admin Plug-in.

Estimated Release Date for 1.2U - 20.04.2010

We have scheduled a release date for the upcoming release of Mani Admin Plug-in Version 1.2 U. It will be released on the 20.04.2010 (20th April). Currently 1.2 U is in an internal beta phase. This will mainly be a small bugfix release with a few new additions.

There will be a patch version from 1.2 T to 1.2 U. From now on, we will continue the 1.2 branch with minor bugfixes and minor feature additions as we move forward to 2.0.

The majority of our developers will spend their time developing Mani Admin Plug-in 2.0 from now on. We will consider feature additions for 2.0 when the time is ready for it. 2.0 should be community driven. We will keep you informed about the process from time to time by community news updates.

Security advice for game server owners

E-mail Print

Based on a more and more widely spread, not yet fully fixed SRCDS exploit, it is possible to upload files to game servers, allowing a person to change the rcon password (via uploading  a new server.cfg) or adding themselves in all plug-ins using a .txt / .cfg file for admin authentication (for example uploading a new adminlist.txt / clients.txt for Mani Admin Plug-in, a new admins_simple.ini / admins.cfg for SourceMod or a new autoexec.cfg for Eventscripts eXtensible Admin etc.). This exploit is not based on any plug-in installed on your gameserver. This exploit is based on the SRCDS itself.

Valve is aware that there is a file upload exploit and already fixed it partly for TF2 and has already fixed another even older upload exploit. But until yet, this exploit still is possible.

To prevent this, it is advised to set sv_allowupload 0 in your server.cfg, disallowing uploads completely.

This will break some in game spray functionality, since spray's can't get uploaded to the server anymore. Still, it is highly advised to set this CVar to 0 to prevent your server from being exploited by file uploads. Also, set your server to sv_cheats 0 to prevent a very common exploit allowing a person to gain rcon access. It is also advised to set sv_allow_wait_command 0 to prevent a script causing lags by making extensive use of the built in "wait" command to lag the server.

Also, make sure you update all your plugins you're using on the server to the latest build. If you want some extra protection it is advised to set the rcon password in the start up command line instead of specifying it in the server.cfg, That way it can't be changed. If you're running a root server, it is highly advised to restrict the user running SRCDS to only being able to write in his home directory.
